Carbon footprint

C02 is a greenhouse gas. That means that it is a gas that makes the earth’s atmosphere warmer by absorbing the heat of the sun. Burning fossil fuels for energy consumption causes C02 emissions, as do many other processes in agriculture and industry. The amount of C02 that a process produces is measured in a ‘carbon footprint’.

Why is it important?
Warmth is good. It is essential for life. But too much heat in our atmosphere can do harm. It can even lead to environmental catastrophes that lead to scarcity in food, economic instability and threaten our living circumstances. Human impact on our small planet is gigantic. On the one hand we produce C02 at high speed by burning fossil fuels, on the other we destroy the earth’s natural C02 capture mechanisms such as the rain forest.

What do we aim for?
The best way to decrease our carbon footprint is to use as little fossil energy as possible. At Dynniq, we looked at all the things we do that causes C02 emissions, and it turned out that our vehicle fleet is responsible for a large part of our carbon footprint. We aim for a reduction of the C02 emissions per FTE.

How do we get there?
For achieving a reduction of the carbon intensity of our fleet, we promote the use of cars with low C02 emissions, such as hybride and electric cars. Furthermore, we look for ways to avoid driving, since the cleanest kilometre is the kilometre you don’t drive. We can do this with navigational tools, or with alternative ways of working like virtual meetings using tele- or video-conferencing. In addition, we also look for energy saving measures in our offices and the use of renewable energy for our offices.
